Beginner
This division provides a great atmosphere for players looking to develop their skills in a recreational, but structured, environment. At the beginning of each session, a 20 minute skills clinic will be held to focus on player development. During game play, each team is paired with a highly-skilled mentor who provides guidance on technique and volleyball strategy. Teams play 4, 20 minute matches and referee one game each week. This level is designed for players who have the ‘basics’ down (i.e. bumping, setting, hitting, serving, etc.) and would like to concentrate on refining these skills through drills and a structured play environment. Evaluations ARE required for this division and players must be familiar with the 6-2 system of play. The division typically begins with some skill development . This is the introduction level to our competitive divisions. The level is designed for players who have the ‘basics’ down (i.e. bumping, setting, hitting, serving, etc.) and would like to concentrate on refining these skills. Evaluations ARE required for this division and players must be familiar with the 6-2 system of play. Teams then play 4, 20 minute matches, referee one game, and have one game off each week. This division is designed for players who have been playing volleyball for a number of years. They have a strong command of the basics/specialized positioning and are looking to push their skills to the next level. You must know 6/2 and 5/1 volleyball formations. Teams play 4, 20 minute matches and referee one game each week. This division is our highest level of play. It is designed for players who have been playing volleyball competitively for a number of years and can demonstrate high, consistent skills. Players in this league should be dedicated to playing hard, fast ball in a highly competitive, but friendly, environment. Experience level of play is typically Club level to University and should consist of NAGVA BB, A, and AA. If rated with NAGVA you must be BB or above to tryout for this division. This division is for players who are no longer complete beginners but are still early in their volleyball journey – typically around 1 year of experience. Players should already know the basic skills (bumping, setting, hitting, serving) and want more court time to improve through structured play. The focus in Intermediate 1 is on maximizing play time, not lengthy drills. A few targeted drills will be run throughout the year to work on some key skills.
