This division is for players who are no longer complete beginners but are still early in their volleyball journey – typically around 1 year of experience. Players should already know the basic skills (bumping, setting, hitting, serving) and want more court time to improve through structured play. The focus in Intermediate 1 is on maximizing play time, not lengthy drills. A few targeted drills will be run throughout the year to work on some key skills. It is not expected that players know offensive systems like 6-2 or 5-1 at the start. 6-2 will be introduced during the first two sessions. After, the teams will use the 6-2 system for the rest of the season. Teams will play four 20-minute matches per session and referee one match. Evaluations are required for this division.
Self-evaluation checklist:
- Can perform underhand serves; may be developing overhand serve.
- Can bump and pass the ball but may struggle to direct it to a setter.
- Can hit the ball but is still learning proper attack footwork.
- No prior knowledge of the 6-2 system is required (for the first session)
Play is every Sunday from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Lord Byng Secondary School (3939 W 16th Ave). Drop in play is $9
